Get Involved

The Office for Social Justice and Diversity (OSJD) works to create an inclusive campus environment at Montclair State University through student-focused education, advocacy and engagement. This includes large-scale campus events, identity center-specific programs, weekly peer-led discussion groups and flag raisings for culturally significant holidays and observances.

For the latest updates on events and programs, follow OSJD Engage, OSJD Instagram, Red Hawk Pantry Instagram and Rocky’s Closet Instagram.

Events

Monthly events at Identity Centers are guided by four programming pillars: Identity Exploration, Cultural Immersion, Student Advocacy and Leadership Development. These events help students connect with peers, learn about campus and community resources and engage in experiential learning on and off campus. Check out past event flyers and photos in our Engage Gallery.

Active programs for the Multicultural Center, Women’s Center, LGBTQ+ Center and Center for Faith and Spirituality are led by a Graduate Coordinator (GC) and an undergraduate Student Assistant (SA).

Flag Raisings, Holidays and Observances

Montclair State University recognizes a variety of holidays and observances that celebrate different identities, faiths and cultures throughout the academic year. The Office for Social Justice and Diversity collaborates with campus partners on programming for many of these events and takes the lead in coordinating flag raisings and receptions for LGBTQ+ History Month, Disability History and Awareness Month, Transgender Awareness Week and Women’s History Month. We also work with groups like the Latinx Caucus, the African American Caucus and the Asian Pacific Islander Caucus to support other heritage month celebrations. Additionally, our partners in the Department of Religion provide a Multifaith Religious Observances Calendar to support the campus community in accordance with the Religious Holidays Policy.

Discussion Groups

The Office for Social Justice and Diversity offers weekly peer-led discussion groups where students can build community, share experiences and support one another in a welcoming space. Facilitated by trained graduate and undergraduate staff, these groups feature various topics, activities and outings each week. Some discussions are open to all students, while others are confidential spaces for those who share a specific identity. Students looking to observe a discussion group for academic requirements will not be permitted and should instead attend a workshop or training session or email diversity@3327e.com for assistance.
